Well, getting higher ranks, unlocks, once those are accomplished it's complete. There's nowhere left to go except get more points or badges. Once you have it all it seems pretty complete to me.

well then ... you see why they screwed up by "fixing" the system. Now it will be " complete" in your eyes three times faster, and you won't ever play it again cause it won't have any replay value. Thank god for older fps that aren't designed to be anything complete. But to be played. :D

Taking into account the original requirements, it was virtually impossible to "complete" the game buy getting all medals/badges. You know why? Cause you were never meant to have "everything".

A guy plays defense for 2 years and at the end gets a Ground Defence Expert badge. Another guy flies in a helicopter the whole 2 years, and gets the helicopter Medal. A third guy runs after his squad resupplying them all the time, and at the end is rewarded the Support Medal.

And when they meet, they will all have different awards. This is called distinction. And this distinction is worth playing for. But if everyone gets the same, then who freaking cares what you got.

Absolutely. Distinction of simulator vs. game.

Well all I have to say is that if you spend your whole life living to play this game for 6 hours a day then you are rediculous!! No matter what.....rank means almost nothing....the whole point is keeping track of your stats..wouldnt it be cool if you could know your stats from 1942 or vietnam.....Noobs distinguish themselves but you people are way too hard on them.......I am a dedicated bf person but3 hours a day is the most I play ever.....that is still a lot of time and effort involved to play the game....just because you have 50,000 points and have no life dont mean youll own me......ive played all battlefields and I am a really good player...but im not gonna try to play for 6 hours a day to distinguish myself.......wtf? this is for fun too........just cause you have those high ranks dont mean your better...it means you have a lot more time invested and I hope the hell you would have a lot of points for it...who wouldnt....there is a difference between being a player who is always top 5 and a player who is always bottom 5.....every map........you know that the people in the top five are not noobs.....and it will definatly take them a lot less time to gain ranks, medals and points...right now even anyone with around 9,000 or 10,000 points who dont point farm and who dont spawn kill or base rape are good players.......base rape is ******* stupid and I know some people do it for easy points......my points are earned...not given......Im not gonna listen to some dumbass diss all the people that dont play bf2 for 3 hours...eats dinner...playes 3 more hours...every day......how about us that work 5 ten hours shifts a week....you guys can say what you want....but ill still own most of you with high ranks who cheat to get their points....your rank will mean nothing when I kill you....when your on my team I dont care if your a noob....I like people in my squad that work together....no matter how many points they can score...those people still try hard and they are a good asset to the team...they are a good balance!!

Re: Ranking System Dramatcly Changed Warning Spoilers

The funny thing about this whole thread is to see that some people actually had no problem with wasting their life away in front of a computer screen for countless hours to unlocks some ranks and weapons. But the funniest thing is to see the people who were doing it are mad now because they have done what the smart people have avoided doing. Yes, requirements (for the ranks at least) have been drastically reduced. And thats ok. You know why? Because the only significance your rank has in the game is if you like to play commander alot, or if you want to unlock that alternate weapon. You would need a high rank to have a chance of being picked over someone in a game as commander. You need to advance in rank to get alternate weapons. No one wants to spend half of their life simply trying to earn the option of going into battle with a different weapon than they normally do. The real reward (as it is in the real military) is in the medals, badges and ribbons (and yes ranks too...but not for our purposes). The requirements for these have not really changed too much, maybe for the badges more than the medals. You still have to put in quite a few hours in addition to already having met certain badge requirements. So even if there have been a ton of promotions, It hasnt really taken away from the replay value of the game as there are still many things in the game that will take time to accomplish. Besides, after the next few patches are released and we finally get one that actually makes the game more stable than it is now, then people will definitly continue playing just because of that.

blah blah..........
I totally agree with you....this is the way I feel about it. I played countless hours on 1942 and on vietnam playing for the fun of it.....I like the rank system because it offers something different......it keeps track of the way you play......I just dont see why people for all those medals like.....the knife medal...and pistol medal....its funny because they do it just because they know they can.......having the medals for the diffeent weapon groups is good because if your a well rounded soldier you have to change your weapon kit depending on what your squad needs...so it just shows people that they can use those weapons well....then they have advanced medals in the same thing.....if we had ranks would that mean that people would keep playing vietnam?
The biggest thing I find with this is that no bf game besides 1942 offered the Campaign gameplay.....this is what they should do
and the coolest would be to have an online campaign that the server would have...and it keeps track of how many boats you destroy, tanks...apc, so on just like 1942 did at the end of its campaign......even if you dont play the whole campaign obviously...but you also have a longterm goal....not nessesarily how many points YOU have YOURSELF....but that you try to make YOUR TEAM WIN....then at the end of the campaign it would have the top stats for the campaign........shit this is good shit.......im gonna have to start a new thread.
:)

Well, you've reached the top of the ranks in BF2? EA/DICE have something special for you....BF2 Special Forces. Coincidence that the BF2 rank climb was expidited with BF2 SF waiting in the wings? You be the judge.

Truly a joke. The first night of the 1.03 patch I jumped 3 ranks. At this point they might as well scrap the ranking system and give us the unlocks. I originally expected the ranking system to coincide with the ability to operate vehicles (Lts and above could pilot aircraft, Sgt/above tanks, etc).

Now that would just be foolish ...
I ( like everyone else) is not going to pick up a game of this magnitude for the 50 usd it cost, so i can sit there and look at a jet on a runway, and think to myself,
" Someday i will have enough rank to fly that" give me a break ..... [sarcasm]I would rather at that point .. Shoot down my own planes to get my monies worth lol .[/sarcasm]

I was actually always a supporter (since BF42) of a "qualifying" or "certification" system, so that people can't operate planes/helis without first getting the required certification.

You can practice on single player, and then go online and get the certification (flying certification on some official EA server, nothing to do with ranks, etc), and only then pilot a full blackhawk

:D

Why are they not "gamers"? Do you have to spend a certain amount of time on one game to become a "gamer"? Don't be a mong....

Dark Saint October 13th, 2005 09:01 AM

Re: Ranking System Dramatcly Changed Warning Spoilers

yeah i would have to aggree with falco. Your amount of time played doesn't make you a gamer. If you can hold your own against someone who plays more that you, what is the difference.

Just because you don't play for three hours a night doesn't mean you aren't a gamer.
This is the same type of logic that gave us the "camper" syndrome.

Re: Ranking System Dramatcly Changed Warning Spoilers

I am glad they changed it but in classic EA fashion the messed that up too.

I was campaigning for a logical progression in Rank. 500 for R2, 1000 for R3, 2000 for R4, 4000 for R5, 8000 for R6, 16000 for R7, etc...

Now it makes as little sense as before but in our favor. Way to go DICE.

I am happy about having more unlocks though and the change in ranking system did bring me back from a nearly 2 month hiatus.

Oh and about the 250k limit? Still doesn't make any sense. If they are going to add officers they need to come up with another way to do it. That and there is only 1 Sargenat Major of the Corps at a time.

Re: Ranking System Dramatcly Changed Warning Spoilers

I'll tell ya... it's funny how one day (pre-patch) I'll read here and in many other BF-related forums how much the ranks and unlocks used to suck because it took forever and it wasn't fair and yada yada yada. Now (post-patch), I'm reading in this and in many other BF-related forums how it's too easy to get new ranks and there's no more distinction to your awards and everyone has the unlocks and yada yada yada.

Yikes. EA responds to popular opinion by making the first few ranks easier to attain but keep the highest ranks a pain in the rear to get... and now nobody seems to like it.

Honestly? I could care less about the ranks, medals, and awards. Yeah, they're neat to look at and shoot the breeze over with buds, but nobody gives a rat's ass if you have a certain medal and they don't. Seriously. If you think the others care, you need to go out more -- the only person who will care is yourself (not saying that's a bad thing, just being realistic). It's the unlocks that are key to me. Right now, I'm happier than horsesh*t -- I have all the unlocks I wanted so now I can play without worrying or caring so much about the stats and enjoy the game for itself, just like I did with BF42 and BFV. Do I want to noob-tube as a US Assault? Or would I rather be able to hit more accurately with the G3 when I'm US Assault? Now I have that choice and that's awesome.

Re: Ranking System Dramatcly Changed Warning Spoilers

Rank means nothing, except for unlocks and commander choice. Anything else is just somebody's ego. I cannot believe that a single one of you new sgt's that hates the 'nerfed' ranks is sorry about getting all the unlocks. I'm not, and I really don't care all that much if others have them, I try to use them to better effect. Sure some guys will have fun with the gas-op'd shotgun, but they'll realize eventually that to win you need to spawn with the weapon your squad needs, not the one you like best. Having unlocked just about everything, I'm more valuable to my squad! It's not just what you have unlocked, it's what you do with what you have unlocked to help your squad/army win.

Haugfather October 14th, 2005 03:03 PM

Re: Ranking System Dramatcly Changed Warning Spoilers

I like the unlocks but I am just upset that an idea as cool as the ranking system has been handled so piss poorly by DICE.

Unlocks do matter to me and Rank/Awards are a nice feature but not a deal breaker. I had just hoped that they would make fair and logical changes to a very unfair and illogical system.

=TFM=Melvin October 14th, 2005 03:30 PM

Re: Ranking System Dramatcly Changed Warning Spoilers

Yeah, I guess some of the people that complained that some of the (old) ranks were 4x too wide a spread are now complaining that DICE nerfed the spread by making it 4x too narrow for them. Go figure. ;)

I think you are mistaken....you should have 25,000 points to be a first sergeant. And how do you explain me only have 8900 points and being a gunnery sergeant. I don't get it! If you have 20,300 you should only be a gunnery sergeant

I'm not sure where you got your score info, but isn't it 20K for Master Sgt (that's what I am at 21,000-ish), but if you also have all the Basic badges & 20K points you get First Sgt? Isn't 25K for Master Gunnery Sgt?

I'm missing the Knife and Pistol badges; I keep saying I'm going to just bite the score bullet and go for them in a game, but I always end up just playing. Sniper is the only badge I actually worked at, 'cause it took a few trys with the locked rifle to get enough kills in a game. I can kind of see the preverse pleasure in the knife badge, I love to knife snipers! The pistol is not a lot of fun to use all the time, but it's handy when you get in a good h2h fight. Don't you love those fights where you and the other guy go through several clips at each other jumpin' & jivin'? "Should I reload, or just run up a knife 'em?" I love having a fast rig & 7MB connection...

Well that's what you get for screwing around with a working system. If it's not broke, don't fix it! But seriously, changing the ranking system could have caused issues with the update servers, personally it doesn't bother me at all, now they've screwed with the ranks there's no point in using that system. Any time they want they could change it to something else so what's the point of trying to earn badges and ranks and etc. Even the points are now, well, pointless :D
