I posted earlier, but FactionRecon is right, it just changes the code path of the game through the vid drivers, it probably changed the shader level that the game is using (ie: shader model 2.0 instead of shader model 3). This, of course, only works when the game name is hard coded into the Video drivers files with instructions on which code path to use, it's quite common for the latest games to have their own code paths programmed into the vid driver files for the latest vidcards, however that is only possible when the latest features have only just been released and there are only a few game using them. Once more games start using the features the drivers are updated to query the game code to see what features it can use, and sets the code path appropriately, so from then on it doesn't matter what you make the game name, the features used will be the same. In all cases the DX version is the same.

Wow... that was in-depth. I barely understood it. If I understood that, I wonder what limits my mind could reach right now...

Looking at your specs, you should be fine without this workaround. I run the game on an old COmpaq 7000 w/640MB RAM & the FX7500 Ultra card. Plays fine, but I do need to turn the graphics settings down. On my MAG 19" montior I can barely tell the difference in graphics quality, an game play is fast/normal. This workaround is going to help people with older graphics cards (prior to FX5700 or ATI 9200's, and such) a lot more than with newer ones. Or more precisely, it'll help people with graphics cards that don't support Shader 3.x versions. For eveyone else, you may be losing more than you gain.

PS - I also run the game on my new XPS system (P4 550, 1 GB DDR2 , I925X Express, 256MB ATI X800XT, and 10K rpm System drive. It smokes!

You should be able to run it with your setup if add another 512 RAM....

I do have a few lags, but it's mostly when I'm joining a team in the beginning...
My problem is, does this work for those weird lags that I get? It's most annoying when I'm flying, because it's like, woohoo! The idiot's flying again! Now let's bump his ass and turn him op site down... So, one second I'm one place, flying normally, and the next, I'm a TOTALLY different place... On the way down the water!!! Stupid, but that's how it is... Hope my description contains enough details point out the problem. =D

No, what you are disussing is LAG, not low FPS/poor vid card performance. This is usually server related, I get it occaisionally myself. Just make sure you go on nice local low ping servers.

Yeah, that kind of lag is really strange. I had some lag like that while playing Halo once... it was horrible!

It's in the C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2 folder. The subject of what and how to write has been covered serveral times in this thread, suggest going back and re-reading the previous posts.
