Most of us have work, so most won't test it untill after 6

Julafton July 6th, 2005 12:29 PM

Re: Patch out woohoo

Ok ive tested it a little bit now and there are goods and bads as allways. Here are a few of the changes. Goods: logging in and map loading times are a lot shorter and i mean a lot, disconnecting is faster as well as joining a game, the oh so hated browser is improved, theres an option wether to get a new server list or update and the game is smoother now and doesnt have as much lag (atleast on the server i tested).
Bads: Still takes a while from selecting a server to actually getting the data, pressing update server list didnt work for me (i tried once so i dont really know for certain) and a few other stuff i probably forgot.
Enjoy the speed of the login and map loading :D

I like it :agreed :
loading times are much better!

Re: Patch out woohoo

well the patch basically fixed the server browsing problem, since its only a 13mb download it really doesnt fix much of the netcode [yes the lag is still there], but hey good job for EA addressing the server list, my hat goes off to themhttp://forums.filefront.com/images/smilies/smilie.gif

Now go join a MP server and play like a man.

Re: Patch out woohoo

1.) I had the problem like many experienced, game would not start after the patch. After several repeated attempts to load the game, almost ready to re-install, the game suddenly loads. Very strange

2.) In game browser is 110% better. With the previous one, I could hardly ever find a game I wanted. Today I was able to get to the maps/player count/server right I away. But....

3.) Everything was still moot when I got into games. I went from game to game, but the same old lag. Add to the frustration of how idiotic I think they did the ranking system, it is even more frustrating. Before I had a clue on how idiotic it was, I unlocked a weapon I now regret doing. Because of that, I figured if I was going to play MP, I might as well play ranked so I could someday actually unlock something I would want. But it is damn near impossible to do anything with the way the lag is- vehicles floating through buildings, enemy appears and disappears at random, etc..

When I think about it now, I would have prefered to have the lag issue addressed MORE than the game browser. Yes the browser was the worst I had ever seen for a MP game. I eventually just went straight ahead to 2 different servers I like or know had the maps I liked and skipped searching through.

Personally, I have even more anger now at EA/Dice since they have yet to even acknowledge the lag issue as if it doesnt exist. I get the feeling that this game might not be trully ready until a few more patches, which says a lot about how these companies view the quality of their work. It also speaks a lot to the stupidity of those that think we should not be angered or upset...EA just gave the community the big finger and said "Hey, you morons will go ahead and purchase this anyways, so why should we bother beta testing this". Frankly, there is zero chance that they were NOT aware of how awful the browser was, yet still released it anyways.

I liked iD softwares philosophy of "Its ready when its ready"

So,the shitty controls setup is not fixed in this patch?

Re: Patch out woohoo

The patch is worse. The browser now shows ping rates in the 300s when it used to be in the 100s. The scrolling is horrible and slow. And if you try to join a full server you have to start from the top again.

The lag is a killer, literally. The weapon accuracies suck.

Did they test this thing?

Flodgy July 6th, 2005 09:50 PM

Re: Patch out woohoo

they need to test a patch before its released, and if they did....
The browser is faster, but still bitchy, bugging and screwed with. servers pings are messed up. for some reason none of my favourite servers are there ( I checked their site to see if they had updated their servers to latest verion, and they had)
There has been several cases of people losing player stats.
And Im getting alot of 'there is a problem with your connection' messages

Oh and

Those stupid Nvidia drivers that were released with the game, alot of newer games not optimized for Nvidia do not run. At All. they are evil.

Re: Patch out woohoo

The patch is great!

Firstly, they allowed you to bind many controls that you couldn't bind before.

Secondly, they did a great job on the in-game browser. It no longer lags, has more filters (like the ability to search by ping, finally). And the new "update server list" vs the "refresh" button is really great, when you don't want to relist the server, just want to see if the spot is opened. Furthermore, the browser no longer crashes the game during the operation

Thirdly, you can finally see the server IP while in-game (about time....)

And lastly, the loading times are greatly improved. It used to take me 30 secs to load a map. Now, it loads in 15 secs.

The patch did just what it said it would do. It was not a gameplay-fix patch, but it fixed a lot of issues and stability of the game

Re: Patch out woohoo

Wow i seem to be pretty lonely about having an actually fine working, not extremely laggy battlefield 2 that does work. Or maybe im just not so easily upset. Think about the pressure put on dice for example. Making a follow up on one of the worlds greatest multiplayer games but still making something completely new, being bound to gamespy (what does gamespy do actually?), and pleasing an entire community of gamers with skyhigh expectations. They didnt have much time but i think they managed pretty good, and whats so bad about patches? People say they dont want to buy an incomplete game, but look how many patches that came out for 1942. I bought the game pretty late so i dont really know about how bad it was at first, but im glad that all the bugs and stuff were taken care of so that the game was pretty much taken care of. There will be patches and since waiting for them a little bit wont hurt you, i think its worth it.

server browser is alot better. you can actually use it without pain.

Re: Patch out woohoo

I voted that the patch is crap. It was hard for me to decide as there was no middle ground vote(the 'Rabbit Banana' vote doesn't work for me. choices should have been Good, Ho-hum, and Crap). The patch may have fixed a few things but I can't tell much difference really. My two biggest gripes were not addressed and that is why I voted crap. But looking at it another way I suppose the patch is good. Another way being, that a game is usually out for a while before you see a patch that fixes numerous items that are at issue. Although I have seen patches come out very quickly before that fixed quite a few issues. I have also seen fixes that are in a patch, break other things. Patches are good and bad. For the most part, good or bad, patches are the norm for PC games anymore.

Don't get me wrong just because I voted 'crap'. I think BF2 is a great game and has fewer bugs than BF1942 when it was released. Overall, any patch that makes things better without breaking other stuff is welcome.

----------------------------------------------------

Server browser still needs work. [SYN] hydraSlav, when I click on 'Refresh', it says "Updating Server List" as if I had clicked that button, instead of the 'Refresh' button. (???) And I do believe it updates the entire server list! Just how are you going about seeing if a spot has opened up hdraSlav? Because....

My biggest gripe with the Server Browser is... it still does not refresh a singular server. If I click on a single server that shows it has 56/64 people, it still shows 56/64. It does not update and display 64/64 and show that it is actually full now.

No 'Favorites' list added to the server browser.

I'm not seeing any difference in map load times. It may be the settings I have my game at, namely video settings, and my systems settings. The 'Verifying Client Data' takes the longest and is taking just as long as it did before, as near as I can tell anyway. Not a big deal to me, loading the map and verifying client data takes about 2 minutes or a little less on my system(haven't ever timed it). Still, glad to hear that some of you are getting faster map loading times.

My biggest gripe with a bug in the gameplay is... that sometimes a friendly is colored red as if he is an enemy. This results in TK's and sometimes people getting unjustly kicked off the server for TK'ing. This is a bug that, imo...

1) Should have never made it into the final version of the game.

2) Should have been fixed in the first patch.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I do seem to connect and disconnect to games a little more smoothly and faster now.

Server browser does not hang anymore.

Control bindings fixed.

Patch is good. Fixed things that needed being fixed without any bad side effects. Could have used more fixings to seem more complete, but good job DICE anyway. They delivered.

Loadings don't take a day and another anymore! Sweet!

No, you are certainly not alone. Game works just fine and dandy for a lot of people. In fact, I would imagine that the game works beautifully for the vast majority of folks. I think what you have probably seen is that the loudest vocal group are the ones who have problems. Imagine if you had a problem getting the game to function properly. You'd probably make a bit of noise too! But the vast majority of people get the game to work fine for them and you don't hear from them because they don't have a complaint about trying to get the game running. Look at just how many people you see on here that complain they can't get the game to run on their system. Than look at how many people you see online actually playing the game. Yeah, sure, I'm certain there are a lot of other forums with people that have a problem with the game, besides just this forum, and they post about it on there.

Still, the vast majority of people install and run the game with little if any trouble and don't have any complaint(about getting the game to run) to post. People that have trouble getting the game to run(acceptably or at all) are the ones who will post about the problems they are having. I can't say that I blame them as I know I would too!

Regards,

OneTinSoldier

Wouldn't you browse to see if any mods or patches might help the game enough to reinstall? I never said I hated the game either. I quite liked it. I'd just rather have room for HL2, Q3, UT2k4, Fallout games, and my music/movies/pics.

What we have seen is the possibility of the patch having a "leak" all pings went up across the board, and there were issues with high memory usage.

suggestion ? pull the patch and go back for now, see if they release a patch either as a whole .....or a patch for their ummmmm patch.

Pings = the same (25-30)
Browser = Slight improvement (Still laggy, still gamespy, filters slightly more effective and when you try connecting to a server it doesn't delete the server name filter)
Gameplay and loading times = the same
Network data corruption error = the same

Patch = shit

Actually it couldn't be working at 1.1% if it increased 110% becasue that would imply if it got 110% better that its effectiveness was multiplied by 2.1 and to get 1.1 percent you would be looking at multiplying 0% by 2.1 which is still 0 so yea it cant be working at 1.1 percent.

Re: Patch out woohoo

Yes ...on the client side it did improve some things. Not everything. But it made the game a bit more workable.
The server patch had an issue which tends to cause lag and Ping conflict which is why sometimes you won't see the correct information displayed.

Re: Patch out woohoo

the patch practically did nothing exeptmake the load times faster. Actually it did more harm than good because when you are trying to find a specific server, ping, players, etc. the whole list goes kapooee and you have to restart the game to get the servers back.
