i was watching the BF2 gound combat video and it looks fun and all, but did anyone notice the m249(i think) machine gun? if you look closely in slow-mo, the enemy takes 9 shots in the back and neck before he goes down. i think they really need to make the MG more realistic so it isnt so hard to kill ppl with it. anyone agree?
Well we don't won't a repeat of BFV's "Noob Cannon" do we?
Ok if they strenghten it then as soon as it comes out, everyone will problay complain like in Vietnam and Ea will have to weaken it, so why not just make it like DC's MG's?
Jay, the ballistic fabric often isn't even rated to withstand handgun fire. The USA and France and Germany are out there with the best of the best, though, so they have like IIIa (orwhatever the ratings in Europe are) .44 magnum-proof base vests, and then hard plates to stop rifle rounds. But Britain and Israel and everywhere else still just have flack jackets, designed to be resistant to small explosion fragments, and then they maybe put hard armour plates in the front and maybe the back, usually if they have old flak vests they only have front plates. Plates can be solid steel, solid plastic, solid ceramic, or any combination. Steel is always good, but heavy and it is impossible to wear enough steel to be proofed against AP rifle rounds. Plastic is good, like Dyneema or Spectra, but French Dyneema plates are 1", 2.25cm thick, and usually they have trouble stopping AP rounds. Ceramic plates are hard so when an armour-penetrating rounds hits them the bullet breaks - but then the plate breaks too, so they need a vest to catch all the bits.
Sgt.Eversman man no backpack in the world will stop a rifle bullet, unless it's on the ground and filled with sand. You could line up 2 feet of encyclopedias and a 5.56 bullet would go through them all, and the further away the shooter is the more the bullet will penetrate.

Stops these level 4 rounds:
7.62 x 39 mm 125 GR, steel case mild steel core - 2300 - 2700 fps.
5.56 x 45 mm 65 GR, M855 (SS109 Green tip) - 3250 - 3900 fps.
The US are currently working on web-silk firbre. For those of you who don't already know, Spider web silk is one of the strongest substances known to man. Think of this. You can only JUST see a strand of spider web silk. Its not hard to break but you can't exactly put your hand on it and it rips. They catch fly's and other insects etc.
Anyway what i'm getting at, is spider web silk in a much thicker, larger quantity is extremely strong and flexi. The US have taken advantage of this and are working on an artificial spider web silk armour. It costs SHIT loads to create, as spider web silk is extremely dense
The MG is already accurate enough at long range shooting a tone down in the power is needed so its good that it doesnt take 2-3 hits or you would be a fool to take an assault rifle instead of a MG. Also what type of kit did the person have he was shooting at? Remebr certain kits have diffrent armour. So if he was shooting at a heavy assault it could take alot to bring him down.
