The master server is down - long live the new master server!

Yes, Sierra pulled the plug on the old master server. It is high time for lithfaq.com, the home of the new master server!

To continue playing AvP2 just as you played it before this day, you'll only need to download and install this particular modification:

http://master.lithfaq.com/download/AvP2SMSInstall.zip

This will allow you to play AvP2 over the internet just like you used to. Heck, Rommie already prepared a server for us:

I just wanna say thank you for all your guy's hard work with making this work.

I've personally downloaded and used this mod and it works. My only question was where is the mod that makes it possible to run dedicated servers? Cause everytime I try to log onto my own it just says "unable to connect to multiplayer game."

wow this is awsome just a question though is this one down for maintence? because I can seem to join as well or are there certain Files I need to delete/add?

nvm I figured it out I also made a tutorial on how to use it either with the AVP2 CD or ModManager

So far, we know of the following firewalls to prevent the mod from working:

- "AVG Webshield"
- Norton's "Personal Firewall" and "Security"

Have them disabled (see previous posts in this thread at lithfaq.com LithFAQ • View topic - OFFICIAL: Master Server MOD Updates, News, and Support ) and you should be OK playing the game.

I'll also be watching out for the next patch so that way I can update the video as needed. Will it be posted here on avp2files? I heard it was coming out today.

My suggestion here is to contact SIERRA and ask them to post this news on their site ...
Even though they are no longer responsible, and also i believe this makes AVSP abandonware as they no longer support the mp version of the game. I think it is no longer covered under the antipiracy act, but I could be wrong.

Better yet, let's not. They can easily demand us to shut it down, and we would have to comply.

And ApV2 is not abandonware: Fox still holds the copyright for the franchise. Just because Activision (they bought Sierra) had the master server shut down, that doesn't mean they will just let go on people pirating their games.
