Spawning in SP

Would it be possibly if in SP you could spawn a unit infront of you to help you out? Like in a marine mission you can spawn another marine infront of you to possibly follow (but i know that probably isn't possible) but at least shoot at a hostile when it comes round?

I am not sure but ive spawned many things before my best guess would be no.
