With the way that the site's been lately, several inquiries (some pointed, thankfully none sharp-and-pointed) have been directed my way on the subject, as site admin. And believe me, I have no idea why this is happening either.
That being said, my frustration about the whole situation is coupled with a sense of responsibility to the community on the subject, doubly so when the people to whom I hold myself accountable are every bit as powerless as I am to do much of anything to assist or support the site, other than keep visiting and hope for the best.
So, I decided to supply a list of explanations to possible questions and/or frustrations. Feel free to refer to these points if they help explain things:
- No, it's not my fault. It's not anyone on staff doing this intentionally. In fact, we're not aware of anyone causing FileFront any malice intentionally. It's just the way these things go sometimes.
- For the last time, none of ANY of this has anything to do with April Fools'. The unfortunate irony of the coincidence of the latest changeover in FileFront management with the traditional time of foolery has been covered. You're one of many who do not appreciate this. This is not funny anymore. Believe me, it's been covered in discussion. A few hundred times.
- It's going to take some time for the 'gremlins' and bugs to be worked out of the new arrangement. This time is unspecified for a reason: because all the work is being done by former employees and volunteers. In the long term, this will help the community. In the short term, certain events and errors along the way may inconvenience the community. There's no way around it, only the way through it.
- No site will ever be perfect. Old FileFront is far from perfect. New FileFront will also be far from perfect. You're welcome to discuss FileFront's various and numerous flaws, but please understand that there's only so much that can be done on the subject.
- Everyone of us who help FileFront with its daily operations do so on a volunteer basis. We try to be nice --really, we do-- but we have real lives outside of the Internet and we try very hard to do what we can to provide you with a community and a place that the community can "come home to" after a long day in the all too real world beyond the Internet. We're doing the best we can.
- There is no great conspiracy that we're aware of which is causing this to happen, although solid, conclusive evidence of its existence would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your enduring patience in this regard. We're all in this together, and I think I speak for everyone in this community, and in FileFront's greater realm, when I say, "just get back to normal already, damn you."
Thank you, and good night.
