Armada 2 In Game Cheats In On Line Game Play

HI, have been playing A2 since the game first was released, now of late a very interesting thing has been happening, players are using modded maps with build in cheats that allow them to have more resources, more shield and firing strength and better ship production. For those of us who havent and dont care to use these cheats, are curious too find out how to prevent these being used in a game, how can we check maps to insure that they havent been changed to allow cheats and well just how the heck is this done, would appreciate any and all feed back, lol getting tired of getting by those who cant play fair but feel the need to cheat.. thanks

The actual "cheats" for the game are only usable in single player mission games. Modded games are not unfair due to the fact that EVERY player MUST have the exact same set of files to play. Therefore, you can't viably say that one person is using a modded game whilst another player is not. There woul dbe an out of synch error and no-one is able to play.

.....makes me wonder what the actual reason behind this thread is. Makes me actually believe that your more frustrated that your playing against better players (I've seen this on several occasions with both Total Annihilation and UT2004).

I remember one game where someone had a Fusion Cube when I was just making my first Research Facility, which is simply not "possible," no matter how good a player they were, because they simply did not have enough time to gather resources to make the Fusion Cube. Not sure how they did it. It was not an unlimited resources game, of course.

mmmh maybe it was a map where some derelict ships were lying and he repaired it?

Thats very possible Sovereign, and yes. I do still have and play TA. In fact it was probably the first game I bought and modded (and I'm just glad I could get hold of two new copies, ones still sealed, fairly recently on the cheapie label).

It is possible to make a "rigged" map, you can set shields to a near infinite strength and set special weapon recharge rates to instantly recharge.

Its nothing new, I have seen people doing it for years. All you have to do is refuse to play on rigged maps and with people that cheat. Just immediatly tell everyone that there are cheats being used and leave the game, everyone else should follow you.

There are cheats for multi (actually programming errors that can be exploited) but no reputable A2 player is going to tell you about them.

I have seen this map cheating happen, i played one game online with an unbeatable starbase with shilds that dont go below 95 with 2 fusion cubs 0_o how odd

mmmh..
It could be a bug or a slow internet connection that you are firing on a ship and nothing is happening and then suddenly boom it explodes...

no, its just someone changing the properties of a ship in the map editor, you can give ships a huge max shield that can't be beaten down via conventional means.

I have seen it happen plenty of times, but cheating never saves people if they have to resort to something like that. If you give a starbase a unbreakable shield it just means that everything else will be destroyed apart from the starbase until I bring in special weapons to finish it off.

Besides, shields might be invulnerable but crew isn't.
