Really, how come so many anime characters look like they just rolled out of bed? And why the hell is their hair these weird colors? Why do they never need to dye their hair to keep it that color? Does hair dye even exist in anime? How about combs?
I just find it kinda funny how they have these ridiculous hair styles. When you look at Japanese people (at least on television) they all have black hair, white hair, or no hair at all. And it's not in some fancy style like a mohawk or something. Just black hair, nothing fancy done to it. On men it seems like they have short hair, and the women mainly have long hair, sometimes in a ponytail. Nothing that goes "over the top".

Well if you go to maybe an anime convention you can find some people with their crazy hair trying to be like whoever. Let's take naruto chracters for example maybe there hair just grows green pink etc etc etc and yet there hair stays perfect length and never grows Since they have people turning into wolfes and things and giant toad things it seems logical that there hair grows weird colors. And for their hair styles maybe they use a SUPERUBER hair gel that one use lasts a whole year lol.

Keep in mind that this is a rough stereotype, it varies from anime studio to anime studio. It it more true than not but there are always exceptions.
For females:
Green hair usually means a intellectual type, Think Librarian or inventor/scientist
Blue hair usually are authoritarian and more mature and watch over the rest so to speak. Think mother figure or mother hen. Purple hair appears in this category alot too.
White hair is usually a authority figure or mature and wise. Usually a leader or someone wise and knowledgeable.
Pink hair is usually someone cute and innocent. They are also sometimes shown as similar to redheads personality wise.
Redheads are usually wild, aggressive, boisterous, impulsive, energetic, etc.
Black hair is usually worn by females who display traditional Japanese values and the hair is usually worn in traditional Japanese styles.
Blondes. Varies alot from typical airhead to sexkittens. Can be intellectual or dumb.
Guys the hair color is similar. But the more spiky and unruly the hair the more unruly and rebellious teh personality.
Japanese anime is the only enviroment I have ever seen where a eveil geek pushing his glasses back up on his nose can look intimidating. Most anime characters who wear glasses seem to be more laid back and less aggressive.

how did you get information like that? I wouldn't say it's true with all anime's though.
ex. one of the extendeds in gundam seed destiny has white hair and he's anything but wise and mature.

Ive always thought at least part of the reason for the different hair styles was to help distinguish the characters, what with the somewhat minimalistic nature of the facial features etc.
But I agree, every now and then you realize that theres a dude with spikey green hair with six times the volume of his head who seems quite normal...

I'm not against the Japanese but on another forum this guy asks "Why do some anime girls have big boobs and colored hair?" I replied with "They like to draw what the lack, sorry..." I knew what I said was mean and untrue, I was just going for a big laugh... I have always wondered why they do have some odd characters in anime, not even hair just odd in other places. I guess Anlushac cleared it up for me..

This is a pretty interesting topic as my girlfriend is always trying to make my hair more "anime-ish". It's basically impossible because A) I'm a real human being and B) I don't think hispanics were meant to look like anime characters.
